Pizza Peel

Good friends of ours own a pizzeria/restaurant in Waxhaw, NC (La Strada) and we visited them there recently.  They asked if I could make them a pizza peel (a flat board used for getting pizzas in and out of the oven) for the larger pizzas they make.  It seems that the largest size pizza peels are 18" and they need one for 22" diameter pizza!  So we set out to make a pizza peel that could accommodate their giant New York style pizzas.  My friend Richard (La Strada owner) wanted to help so he came over and we went through the process together over a couple of nights in the shop.  The end result is a professional looking pizza peel that Richard is very happy with!

Rough Lumber Milled Lumber
We started with rough sawn Poplar wood. We milled the Poplar to 3/8" thick planks.
Fitted for Glue Up. The Glue Up.
Checking the size and setting up for glue. Glued planks clamped and weighted down for flatness.
Glued Together Cleaned Glued Boards
All glued up, waiting to clean the dried glue off. After scraping the glue off...looks good so far!
